Canberra Head Coach Kade Klemke is confident midfielder Alex Smout will be fit for the start of the NEAFL season despite undergoing foot surgery yesterday.

"Alex got his leg tangled during a tackling contest at our training session last week, injuring his right foot," Klemke said.
"He underwent scans and we discovered that he had suffered a Jones fracture of the 5th metatarsal in his right foot."
"Following consultation with the medical team we were advised that surgery was as the best course of action for Alex.”
“We are confident Alex will make a full recovery and he’ll do everything possible to bounce back and play a big part in 2019.”
The 24-year-old was named Canberra’s ‘Most Consistent Player’ in 2018 having averaged 29.4 disposals, 5.9 marks and 5.1 clearances, finishing in the Top 10 of the NEAFL MVP voting.
We wish Alex luck in his rehabilitation and looking forward to seeing him back in time for our 2019 campaign.
