Canberra duo Mitch Maguire and Angus Baker, both 20, are set to train with the Sydney Swans ahead of the AFL Rookie Draft.
The Sydney Swans sought and received permission from the AFL to audition three New South Wales-based footballers before the draft, with UNSW-Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs ruckman Jack Blair joining Maguire and Baker in training with Sydney later this month.
Maguire, who was named Canberra's Best and Fairest in October, averaged 28.5 disposals and five clearances in 2018, while 190cm defender Baker amassed 21.6 possessions and almost five marks per game finishing his breakout campaign with the Canberra Demons Rising Star award.
The query on Maguire, who won the NEAFL's Rising Star award and placed fourth in MVP voting, is his 175cm size, but his stunning breakout season appears to have put those doubts to rest.
Baker's debut season with Canberra was all the more impressive after he missed most of the 2017 season recovering from an ACL injury. The NEAFL Rising Star nominee was part of the Swans' Academy program before joining the Canberra Demons in 2018.
The Canberra Demons Football Club would like to extend our congratulations to Mitch and Angus on their achievements and wish them the very best ahead of the Rookie Draft.
