Canberra's General Manager of Football Shaun Young confirmed the former Ainslie and Belconnen assistant coach would be departing the club to join Eastlake on a two-year deal.

Harper first took charge of the Demons' midfield in 2016, having an immediate impact, before being named Senior Assistant Coach in 2017.

"I would like to thank John for his passion and commitment to the Demons' program during the past four years," Young said.

"He has been there from day one and has played a key role in the development of the club and has left a great legacy for those that follow."

“With his drive and commitment to further educating and bettering himself as a coach, it’s no surprise that he’s taken the next step in accepting a senior coach position."

“We look forward to watching him progress in his career and wish him all the best in his new chapter.”
