Emerging defender Tom Highmore has signed a one-year contract extension with the Canberra Demons.
Highmore, a former GWS Academy member, inks a new deal that will keep him in blue and gold until at least the end of season 2019.
The 20-year-old has been one of Canberra’s most consistent players in the NEAFL this year, going toe-to-toe with some of the competition’s most experienced forwards.
“This year has been my most enjoyable year of football," Highmore said.
“Considering where we have come from, to be competing with these top sides is a credit to everyone involved with the football club."
“We have a really special bunch of people here at the moment, a lot of guys who I’ll be friends with a long time after I stop playing footy."
"If we continue to work hard and do the little things well, there is no limit to what we as a Club could achieve this year or in the years to come."
Highmore, a member of Canberra’s leadership group, said he had no hesitation in recommitting.
“I didn’t even think twice about it. The club is in a really good place at the moment and the people we have involved are exceptional."
“I look forward to getting bigger and stronger and taking my game to another level so I can repay the faith the club has showed in me."
Canberra General Manager Shaun Young said Highmore shaped as an important player for Canberra over the coming seasons.
"Not only has he become an integral part of our defence, but he has grown into a wonderful young leader," Young said.
"The club has been really impressed by Tom's commitment since he first arrived here and his success is testament to the work he puts in.
"At the age of just 20 and with an abundance of NEAFL experience, Tom's continuing growth will play a critical role in our club going forward."
