Canberra defender Alex Paech was delighted with the performance of his fellow defenders in the Demon’s hard-fought 5-point win against Sydney University last weekend.

Every single one of Canberra’s backs contributed and Paech highlighted the efforts of key defenders Ben Halse, Tom Highmore and Angus Baker as well as emerging defender Riley Budd.
"The defenders this year have been fantastic, Angus baker and Tom Highmore have really drove that rebound and that’s incredibly important to our brand of football," Paech said.
"Riley Budd and Ben Halse have played some really great defensive roles and continue to be vital components of our defence."
Paech said he felt the Demons' were aided by the on field leadership of Sam Martyn, who returned from a hamstring injury in the win over the Students'.
"Sam brings some really great run and carry back into our team and a touch of class by foot.
"He's a really valuable member to our team not only with his ability but his leadership too."
The former GWS Academy product says Saturday's win over Sydney University will provide his side with plenty of confidence heading into tonight's clash with the GIANTS at Phillip Oval.
"The win on Saturday was crucial for us to get our season back on track and winning such a close battle for a young side like us will give us plenty of confidence going forward."
"Tonight's game against GWS will be a real test of where we at and we will need to bring intensity and pressure to have any hope of walking away with the win."
Canberra will host the GWS GIANTS under lights tonight at Phillip Oval with the first bounce scheduled for 6:30pm.
