Canberra midfielder Jack Powell will play his 50th NEAFL game this weekend and our work experience student Ruby Garrety caught up with the milestone man ahead of Saturday's clash with Aspley at Manuka Oval.
“It’s a milestone game for me, it's crept up on me a bit but I’m really excited for the weekend,” said Powell.
The former GWS GIANTS product says seeing multiple players notch up their 50th game milestone this year has been exciting and he's looking forward to his turn in the spotlight.
"A couple of young boys have already celebrated their 50th's this season and it's my turn now, which is great."
After missing out on draft selection in 2017 the 20-year-old opted to remain in Canberra despite an array of interstate offers, highlighting the club's culture as the key factor in him signing on.
"We have such a great group at the club and obviously a great culture, I have a lot of great mates so it was hard to leave."
Reflecting on his season thus far Powell thinks his performance could be at a higher level.
“I’d like it to be a lot better than what it has been but I’m really looking to have a strong finish to the season.”
"I'll spend some time through the midfield this weekend, I haven't played a lot of football through there this year, so to finally get opportunity is exciting."
In what will be the final home game of the season Powell says his main focus will be getting the win.
“A win for the boys this weekend would be good.”
We look forward to Jack's 50th game this weekend wish him the best of luck.
