Canberra’s Head Physiotherapist Liam Toohey provides an update on the injury status of several members of the Demons’ playing group ahead of the season opener against the Gold Coast this Saturday afternoon.
Alex Smout (Foot)
"Alex underwent surgery on his foot in December and has been training with the main group for three to four weeks. He played some game time through the AFL Canberra competition last weekend, which we were excited about. He's progressing well and should be in line for senior selection in the coming weeks."
Sam Martyn (Hamstring)
"Sam has resumed light running and he’s feeling really good. He suffered a grade two tear of his hamstring during a chase down tackle in the game against the Swans and he remains on track to return by round four.
Nick Eynaud (Finger)
"Nick has been back in full skills now for two weeks. We’re looking next week at hopefully playing some game time, most likely through the AFL Canberra competition. He’s ready for some game time and full contact hopefully next week."
Riley Corbett (Knee)
"Riley's missed nearly two weeks where he wasn’t able to do any running, so we probably have to extend the timeframe a little bit with reconditioning and then back into the football program, so he’s probably about a week or two away from resuming some skill and light contact work."
Andrew Swan (Knee)
Andrew's going fantastically well, even in the session last week he looked pretty good. It’s a long-term injury so we’re obviously taking a very measured approach but he is getting closer. That’s going to be a decision between the medical, coaching and fitness team but hopefully over the next month or two we’ll be able to move into some contact work."
